Democratic Candidates to Appear at

Southbury Town Committee Picnic

The annual Southbury Democratic Town Committee picnic will take place at Ballantine Park Pavilion on Sunday, July 9th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  There will be food, entertainment and appearances by most of the candidates for state elections in 2006.

“We expect a large turnout given the importance of this year’s election and the number of candidates who have told us they plan to attend”, said Ed Edelson, vice-chair of the Democratic Town Committee.  They include Chris Murphy, candidate for the US House Representative from the fifth Congressional District 5; John deStefano and Dan Malloy who are both campaigning to be the Democratic candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election; Richard Blumenthal, Attorney General; Susan Bysiewicz, Secretary of State; Denise Nappier, State Treasurer, and Nancy Wyman, State Comptroller.  Senator Joe Lieberman and Ned Lamont who are running to be the Democratic candidate for the US Senate have been invited.  Nancy DiNardo, chair o f the State Democratic Party has also said she will attend.

Entertainment will be by Willie Nininger, who performed last year to the delight of all who attended.

Food will include hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and drinks for a cost of $10 per person.  Children under 12 are free.

“This is an important year for Democrats and Independents to learn about the candidates who understand that the country needs to change direction and to begin to address the many problems that confront us at the State and Federal level.  An informal summer political picnic is the ideal setting for doing this”, noted Bob Tendler, the chair of the Democratic Town Committee of Southbury.

Organizers of the event are the Southbury Democratic Town Committee, the Heritage Village Democratic Club and the Southbury Democratic Women’s Club.

The Southbury Democratic Town Committee is comprised of 30 members and 5 alternates.  Meetings are on the 3rd Monday of each month, usually at Southbury Town Hall.  Check the web site for information: www.southburydemocrats.org
