ABOUT SHARON
Sharon Elias was born, and
raised in New York City. After completing her bachelor’s degree
in 1985 at the State University of New York at Binghamton, she
came to Connecticut where she earned her Juris Doctorate in 1988
at the University Of Connecticut School Of Law.
Sharon has
been serving as the Supervisory Assistant Juvenile Public
Defender in Waterbury for the last seven years. In this
capacity she is responsible
for administrative duties and the supervision of five staff
members in a busy juvenile public defender’s office. Her duties
include authorizing expenditures, performing yearly staff
reviews and the hiring of personnel. These skills have been
very useful in Sharon’s role as a current member of the Board of
Education and of the Personnel, Policies, and Curriculum
subcommittee. She also represents indigent juvenile
defendants, children under 16 , in all types of delinquency
matters including school issues. This helps give Sharon an
understanding of our students and their needs.
Sharon
and her husband, Jay O’Brien moved to Southbury in 1998
where they currently reside with their two daughters, ages 12
and 10.

For a Better Southbury
I
was attracted to Southbury by the reputation of the Region 15
school system as well as the beautiful country setting. For our
community to continue to strive toward achieving the best
schools possible, we must continue to not be afraid of progress
and change. We must be able to engage and challenge our
students so that they may reach their full potential. We must
prepare our students for their futures. |
